Sometimes deer hunting requires more than luck. More than one frustrated hunter entered St. Francis Church dressed in blaze orange for Saturday night mass with head bowed in prayer. Father Mark Coen drew laughs as he draped an orange camouflage stole around his neck.

30 years ago (1982)

This Sunday, St. Francis Catholic Church is doing something it has never done before. It is declaring Nov. 21st as “George Bedard Day,” the first time the church ever named a day for a parishioner. Bedard headed the recent capital fund drive that far exceeded its goal.

40 years ago (1972)

80 years ago (1932)

(Edit.) Although the need of more than one voting precinct in Crosby has been apparent for some years, it never became as obvious as in this election. Voters used any spot to mark ballots. The judges didn’t return the results to the county auditor for three days.

100 years ago (1912)

The natatorium and Turkish bath parlor, which has been operated by George Ridley, has been purchased by Billy Vernon and Paul Clarkson. Vernon will continue his pressorium business on Front St. and add French dry cleaning. Clarkson will run the gym and baths.
