Taulia Tagovailoa, brother of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, will participate in the Seattle Seahawks’ rookie minicamp next weekend.

The Seahawks extended an invitation to the former Maryland quarterback, according to NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo. Tagovailoa went undrafted in last week’s NFL draft.

The invitation is a tryout, giving Tagovailoa an opportunity to earn a chance to participate in training camp in the summer and potentially grab a spot on the 53-man roster, or more likely, a spot on the practice squad.

Tagovailoa followed his brother to Alabama to begin his college career, but he transferred to Maryland after Tua was drafted by the Dolphins. He was a four-year starter for the Terrapins, passing for 11,526 yards, establishing a Big Ten career record. He threw 77 touchdown passes and 37 interceptions while posting 23-18 career record. He was a second-team All-Big Ten selection during his junior and senior seasons.

Tagovailoa petitioned the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility, but the request was denied.

With such impressive numbers, Tagovailoa was ignored by the NFL. Tagovailoa’s size at 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds led NFL scouts to decide he was too small for a quarterback.

The Seahawks currently have three quarterbacks on their roster. Starter Geno Smith, backup Sam Howell and Chevan Cordeiro, an undrafted free agent from San Jose State. Smith and Howell are locks on the roster, but Tagovailoa will likely compete with Cordeiro for the third quarterback spot.
