Major Carl David Schubach, WWII 1941-1946. Cover of Life Magazine Feb. 22, 1943. Intelligence staff officer, G-2, 7th Army. Patton’s staff during the Africa & Sicily campaigns, assigned, as new territory was won, to choose the site & establish new headquarters. At the end of the war, he was with the troops to liberate the Dachau Concentration Camp.
At the very beginning of the war, he was shipwrecked in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. While the ship was repaired in Bermuda, he fell in love with an island girl, who he promised to marry – IF he lived through the war. He returned years later to marry Jean Young Schubach.
After the war he (and Jean!) returned to his hometown, Zanesville, Ohio, to establish Schubach Music Center, which he owned & operated until his retirement and death in 1992.
